Historic Roadhouse. Hat Creek House was established in 1861 by former Hudson’s Bay Company trader Donald McLean. What began as a small log stopping house later became a two-storied structure, and a west wing was added in 1901. It is the last remaining roadhouse of its type and one of the largest ever known along the Cariboo Wagon Road.Hat Creek is a frozen creek north of Forlorn Muskeg. The creek is a good source of cat-tails. Right next to its waterfall is the entrance to an explorable cave that leads to the Marsh Ridge. You can find a mountaineering rope, a deer carcass and coal in this cave. Further right of the creek is the Shortwave Tower. Hat Creek is a 48.7-mile-long (78.4 km) stream and tributary of the Pit River, located in Shasta County of northern California. The creek rises in two forks on the eastern slopes of Lassen Peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park, and flows northward through Lassen National Forest to its mouth at Lake Britton near Burney, California.
