No, a 516 upper will not work on an MCX lower. The 516 recoil system operates just like any other AR-15, so it requires a buffer tube/buffer and spring. The MCX recoil system is totally different with the captured springs integral to the carrier. The buffer tube is gone with the adapter. So you're essentially dedicating a lower to it to the mcx upper. If I remember correctly the kit comes with a hinge adapter that you can use with a standard buffer tube if you wanted to. This kit is supposed to be the complete MCX upper with the adaptor for a standard AR lower, also with a folding stock included. At the time of placing the order, I was told it would be a few months because it is on backorder.The MCX upper has a firing pin safety on the bolt carrier.
