I am not familiar with the OM617 numbers, but if it is a turbo, you would need to change the rear end ratio (higher=lower numerically) to get anything close to 30 MPG. The only other option is if you frequently travel at high speeds (above 70) and wish to have better fuel economy with a quieter cabin at those speeds. If so, you can change the diff to a 2.47. Use a small amount of silicone sealant (or anaerobic sealant) on the new water pump gasket. Be careful not to overtighten the fan clutch bolts and I recommend you pup some blue LokTite on the threads before assembly.
