This is going to be a divided topic. I like the companions for both, but generally prefer Kingmaker companions. Arushalae, Nenio, and Ember are all awesome, and to me, much more interesting than companions like Jubilost, Linzi or Amiri. After 1000+ hours in the game you tend to know what you can and can't do without checking every little detail. My current unfair run (but only Normal kingdom difficulty) I dismissed most of the companions. I have 5 advisors as mercs.
